Wahakura to showcase at Te Matatini 2009
The Māori SIDS team with local Tauranga Moana providers – Te Manu Toroa and Te Kupenga Hauora are working together to provide a mother-baby friendly facility at Te Matatini Festival. Mothers can take a step back from the heat and furore of the festival to breastfeed and care for their babies. The tent is open to all mums with young infants whether they breastfeed or not. The benefits of wahakura and breastfeeding will be showcased in the tent.
There will be a live link to the performance stage so whānau will not miss out on seeing their favourite groups. Te Matatini is the National Kapa Haka Competition held every 2 years. A line-up of 36 groups from all over New Zealand and Australia will compete for the “best of the best” crown. Attracting crowds of 35, 000, Te Matatini is the foremost traditional Māori Arts Festival. The Te Matatini festival will be held on 19-22 February, 2009 at Baypark Stadium, Tauranga.
